Airline Industry Information - Web site that allows ticket exchange to launch in USA
AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2000 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
A new web site called FairAir is due to launch in the USA in 3Q’2000 that will allow visitors to buy and sell airline tickets.
FairAir has apparently reached an agreement with five US airlines that means that they will issue flexible tickets that can be traded between ticket holders. Normally airline tickets cannot be transferred between travellers because the name on an issued ticket cannot be changed.
Though the airlines involved in the venture have not been named, a spokesperson for FairAir indicated that the tickets covered about 15% of US passenger volume according to InformationWeek. The trading will mean airlines receive a fee each time a ticket changes owners.
